The deck we open first

Nine colours we come back to

Every one of these was pulled off the fan deck in the photograph above. They are not trend picks — they are the colours that keep working in Gulf-front houses after the trend moves on, and the note under each is what we actually say about it on site.

The part a chip cannot show you

One colour, three times of day

This is the same greige in all three panels. Nothing has been repainted — only the light has changed. On a west-facing Gulf room the five o'clock version is what your guests see for two hours every evening, and it is the version nobody chooses from a chip held under a showroom lamp.

8am
North light, cool and even
1pm
Overhead sun, closest to the chip
5pm
Low Gulf sun — the one that surprises people

Simulated with colour-temperature overlays, not photographed — the shift is representative, not a measurement. On site we do it properly: samples on your own wall, looked at morning and evening before anything is ordered.

What you leave with

Four things, not an opinion

A consultation that ends in a conversation is worth very little three weeks later, when the crew is on site and somebody has to remember what was decided. These are the things that outlast the meeting.

  1. 01

    A coordinated scheme, written down

Wall, trim, ceiling and accent colours as one set — not four separate decisions made on four different days.

  2. 02

Samples looked at in your light

Put up on your own walls and reviewed there before anything is committed, morning and evening.

  3. 03

    Sheen decided surface by surface

Trim, doors, ceilings and walls each get the sheen that suits how they are used and lit.

  4. 04

    Colours documented for the crew

Final selections recorded and matched at Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore, so what was agreed is what gets ordered.

  5. 05

    Labelled touch-up paint, left behind

Every colour used, labelled by room and surface, left with you at completion — so a scuff two years from now is a five-minute job and not a detective exercise.

Before you call anyone

Do the first pass yourself

We specify Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin-Williams gives homeowners a set of genuinely good tools for free. Use them. Narrowing two hundred colours down to five before we arrive makes the visit far more useful — and costs you nothing.

What none of them can do is stand in your room at five in the afternoon. A visualiser works from a screen calibrated to nothing in particular, and a chip is two inches wide under a shop light. That is the whole reason the section above exists — and the reason we still come and put samples on your wall.

Across every trade we cover

Work from our other trades on the Gulf Coast — not color consultation. We photograph every job, and this page will carry its own once we have shot one.

Common Questions

Color Consultation FAQs

How do I choose paint colors for my home?

Start with your fixed finishes — flooring, cabinets, counters — and your light. Our consultation coordinates wall, trim, and accent colors around those so everything works together.

What are good coastal colors for Sarasota homes?

Soft whites, warm greiges, coastal blues, and muted greens read beautifully in Florida's bright light; we tailor the palette to your home and neighborhood.

Is color consultation included with painting?

Basic color guidance comes with every project; a full whole-home consultation can be added for homeowners who want a coordinated designer palette.

Can I use a paint visualizer before the consultation?

Yes, and it helps. Sherwin-Williams gives homeowners a free Color Visualizer and will post you physical chips at no cost. Narrowing two hundred colours to five before we arrive makes the visit far more useful. What a visualizer cannot do is show you how a colour reads on your own west wall at five in the afternoon — that is the part we do in person.

Is a paint color consultation free?

Ours is part of the project rather than a separate invoice. For comparison, Sherwin-Williams charges for its virtual colour session while its chat, chips and visualizer are free — so it is worth using their free tools first regardless of who you hire.

What do I actually receive from a color consultation?

Five things. A coordinated scheme written down — wall, trim, ceiling and accent as one set; samples put up and reviewed in your own light before anything is committed; sheen decided surface by surface; the final colours documented and matched at Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore so what was agreed is what gets ordered; and labelled touch-up paint left with you at completion, so a scuff two years later is a five-minute job.
